Internet Freebies

There is just about nothing better than freebies other than winning that nearly impossible huge jackpot lottery. Not long ago, to my amazement I was shocked when a complete stranger sacrificed his 53 inch television into my hands. Wow! I have never received such generosity from non strangers. Actually freebies can be found in many locations but one of the best places is the internet. There is nothing more I relish than free software. I'm not referring to the illegal type. Open source is the way to go if you are on a restrictive budget or just simply to miserly to pay for the expensive commercial products. I’m a bit of both. Some of the best open source software that I would recommend is:

  • Open Office ------- http://www.openoffice.org/
great free alternative for Microsoft Office

  • The Gimp ----- http://www.gimp.org/

  • Inkscape ----- http://www.inkscape.org/

  • Audacity ----- http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

  • Scribus ----- http://www.scribus.net/

  • I must admit though I'm more partial to Photoshop than Gimp. Gimp is still a good program that can be used alternatively with Photoshop depending on one's needs.

My favorite gamesite is Pogo. I have been a member for a number of years and can proudly boast over 17,000,000 tokens to my name. Too bad those tokens could not be turned in for cash! You can use tokens for prize drawings of cash. There are also jackpot prizes and cash for many of the games. Mmmm, I wonder if finding a needle in a haystack would be easier?! Despite the odds, the games are entertaining. You too could also have a chance of winning the big one or just playing for free fun with this link.

I'v always enjoyed mazes. An excellent free maze program Daedalus can be found at http://www.astrolog.org/labyrnth/daedalus.htm. It is an extensive computer maze generator that covers every type of maze imaginable. Kids love mazes and with this program you will never run out of mazes for the kiddies to solve. The site has in depth information on mazes. Go ahead and check it out but don't get lost.

One game that I love to play is Bookworm Deluxe. However, it is not a freeware game but is worth mentioning. I just love they way that worm gobbles those letters when words are formed. If he gobbles too many red letters he will let out a big belch. If too many red tiles reach the bottom of the playing screen, the worm will look nervous and start to sweat. It is definitely a cute game as well as challenging. The levels can go very high in this game. Try to stay away from those three letter words if you can.

This game can be downloaded from the internet or purchased on cd.

Word Whomp is another favorite word game of mine. I just adore those little gophers with their big googly eyes as they pop in an out of their holes. The goal of the game is to form as many anagrams from six letters against a timer. This game can be played for free on Pogo or as a paid download. You can also buy this game on cd. The cd is excellent because you can play the game three different ways and rack up a boat load full of tokens to upload and enter into Pogo draws for cash and prizes.

    So, lets get whomping!
